Texas Heritage Insurance Company regretfully announced it has filed a plan to non-renew policyholders who do not have a companion auto or life policy as of February 17, 2009. This decision is due in part to the wide variance of industry hurricane models that predict potential storms and associated monetary losses – along with the availability and affordability of reinsurance. Texas Heritage plans to implement non-renewals beginning July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2010.

Approximately 70 percent of Texas Heritage policyholders in the counties of Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Matagorda and Montgomery will be impacted by this change. Texas Heritage’s goal is to reduce exposure in a coastal environment that is becoming more unpredictable, ultimately providing greater assurance that we have the resources to pay future claims in the case of a catastrophic event.
